Opening Ceremony

Corsham Walking Festival opening ceremony starts at 12:00 pm on Friday 10th June in the Springfield Community Campus, Beechfield Road, SN13 9DN.

Walk Grading

  • Easy: Mostly level terrain; suitable for most walkers
  • Moderate: Some short steep gradients or rough terrain; some stiles
  • Challenging: Requires fitness and stamina; steep gradients, stiles

Walk FRI 1: Castle Combe’s Babbling Brooks and Reserve

Walk with Cotswold Voluntary Wardens to visit a unique secluded nature reserve not normally open to the public, continuing along the wooded valley of the Burton Brook to Nettleton and West Kington.

A donation to the Cotswold Voluntary Wardens is included in price.

Walk SAT1: Two Sides of a Valley

Circular, hilly walk with excellent far-reaching views. Leaving Corsham to follow field and woodland footpaths to Colerne via Thickwood before descending to follow the By Brook downstream to Kingsdown. Returning to Corsham via Chapel Plaister and Westwells. Walking the north and south sides of the Box Valley, following secluded footpaths and byways.

You will have some information about features in the town, but not all this information is accurate. Use your skills of observation and deduction to decide whether the statements are true or false. The walk is suitable for adults of all ages and families with children over the age of 10 yrs. Map and instructions are provided. You must finish by 16.30. Walk SAT3: Into Somerset and the Frome Valley

The route follows sections of the Bradford on Avon Wheel and the Macmillan Way passing through Tellisford in the Frome Valley, Farleigh Castle, Iford Manor and Westwood Church. A stop for tea/coffee/cake at Westwood (bring money/card) before returning along the Kennet & Avon Towpath.

Walk SUN2: Hills and Waterways to the East of Lacock

A circular walk with lovely views, starting from the historic village of Lacock, walking east along the Wilts & Berks Canal to Nocketts Hill, through Bowood Park and on to the pretty village of Bromham. We will pass Chittoe Mill, before returning to Reybridge via Bowden Hill and back into Lacock over the ford.

A circular walk to the south of Corsham via the Memorial at Lower Wadswick to Capt. J H Speke, explorer credited with finding the source of the Nile. Travelling south to Atworth across open fields, before returning north to Neston Lodge and Potley Bridge with a view to the eastern portal of Box Tunnel.

A circular walk going south along the Macmillan Way, through Henley to the Manor House at Mount Pleasant. Turning west along the splendid tree lined avenue to Monkton Farleigh, then north to return to Box via Kingsdown. A lovely countryside walk with scenic views.

From Wadswick we walk around small woods at Westwells then across fields to Hazelbury Common looking for insects, birds and wildflowers, including butterflies and orchids. There will not be a stop for lunch, but you can use facilities at the Forage Coffee Shop, Wadswick Country Store if you wish to stop for coffee/cake or late lunch after the walk. Not included in price.
