Walk SUN 5 – Three Chapels and a Monument

Picture of Chapel Knapp

This circular route visits the Pilgrim’s Chapel at Chapel Plaister which dates to the 13th Century. After visiting the famous explorer John Hanning Speke’s monument and learning about his mysterious demise, we walk on towards The Ridge and Monks Chapel.

Monks Chapel has remained a dedicated place of Christian Worship since it was built by the Quakers in 1662. Situated just over five miles from the Town of Chippenham, it was built in response to the Five Mile Act passed by Parliament.

We return to the start via Lady Margaret Hungerford Almshouses – which contains a School Room that was converted to a chapel on Sundays.
