Walks don’t get much prettier than this! After walking down into Castle Combe via Parsonage Wood, we turn and cross the Manor House Golf Course, then follow Broadmead Brook, thence to Nettleton, Goulters Mill on the Burton Brook then through The Gibb back to the car park. There is the opportunity to stop for refreshments at The Salutation Inn. Bring a packed lunch.

The walk explores the many footpaths and bridleways in and around Castle Combe tracing the brooks that form the By Brook.

From the Car Park we descend into the village and take a uphill turn at the old Telephone Exchange through Paronage Wood that emerges to cross the river at Brook House and back towards the Village centre the location of many a famous film setting.

On towards the Golf Course and the confulence of the Burton Brook and Broadmead Brook, we then follow the Broadmead Brook up stream to the 18^th Century Nettleton Mill.

Crossing the Fosse Way and Fosse Bridge at the site of a Roman Settlement we make our way through Nettleton towards Goulters Mill, a corn mill mentioned in the Domesday Book, that sits on the Burton Brook.

The walk then passes by the Lugbury Longbarrow that consists of three standing stones on a mound that has been named after the nearby Lugbury Farm. Finds at the site included twenty-six skeletons in four limestone chambers. Folklore has it that a golden wheelbarrow is concealed within the heart of the mound.

Re-crossing the Fosse Way, we come to Gatcombe Mill, passing a French burr at entrance to drive. A corn mill in use until the 1920s.

Back up to the Fosse Way and on towards The Gibb, before walking along Summers Lane back to the start.
