Exploring the quarrying industry and the quarries of Box Hill, with wonderful views over the By Brook Valley. Following the old tramway route out of Corsham we head to Hazelbury Manor and Box Woods. Along the way you will learn about the industrial and military history of the area.

The outward journey from Corsham walks along Pockeredge Drive and Spring Lane to Westwells, crossing quiet lanes and fields to Box Hill.

Along the way we will learn about the mines during their working life and since closure. At Box Hill there are excellent views down the valley to Bath and across to Colerne.

After lunch/refreshments, we will cross the A4 to follow a path towards the old RAF Rudloe Manor Site, the former 10 Group HQ RAF during WWII. There are excellent views across the By Brook Valley towards Colerne and back towards Bath.

Following a path through Rudloe Wood and down through The Larches we will cross Hartham Park uphill towards Lower Pickwick Farm.

Turning onto the old Turnpike Road with fine views out to Hartham House with its Sticke Tennis Court and The Larches. We turn right into Middlewick Lane passing the 18th Century Middlewick House, once owned by Her Majesty The Queen but now owned by Nick Mason of Pink Floyd fame. The Masons regularly open the gardens to visitors, to raise money for charity.

Bring a packed lunch.
