If you think that walking is only for those who set off to walk the length of the Pennine Way (268 miles if you are interested) then think again! We are on a mission to spread the word that walks of any length are enjoyable and worthwhile. This is an opportunity to enjoy a guided walk around the lovely grounds of Hartham Park and learn about its history, including the very rare Sticke tennis court.
The walk at Hartham Park at 12:30 on Saturday 13th June, will be an easy stroll around the newly created permissive path around the Hartham grounds. We hope that the walk, with an opportunity for cake and chat at the end will convince even non walkers that walking can be fun, and enjoyable and that walks don’t have to be long.
This easy and gentle walk will include information about the 1000 years of history of Hartham Park, given by one of the leaders at various points. Hartham Park was recorded in the Domesday book; there are lovely open views from the path plus many interesting facts about Hartham. The Grade 2 listed Sticke Tennis Court, one of only 3 remaining in the world is of particular interest and we can have a quick peek inside.
After your fill of history we can go to the café, The Forge and Pheasant, or sit in their outside area, and have the chance to buy ourselves lovely refreshments as our reward.
A reminder that tickets need to be purchased in advance and sales for this walk close at 12:00 on Friday 12th June.
